The Diamond Album Award
Achievements
As a multi-award winner, Hammer is the first hip-hop artist to achieve a diamond album. Hammer was then considered a sellout due to overexposure as an entertainer. Since his image as too "commercial" when rap was becoming "hardcore", Hammer’s image became increasingly rough to adapt to the always changing image of rap. Regardless of his changes, Hammer was ranked the seventh "Best Dancer Of All Time"; he was also declared the seventeenth “Favorite Hip-Hop artist of All-Time”. He has won many awards, including three Grammy Awards for the Best Rhythm and Blues Song in 1990, Best Solo Rap in 1990 and the Best Music Video in 1990. Hammer additionally received eight American Music Awards, a Soul Train Music Award, a People’s Choice Award, an NAACP Image Award, the Billboard Diamond Award , Hammer being the first for a hip-hop artist to win this award, and the International Album of the Year ( which confirmed Hammer's talent as a world-class entertainer).
